What is Post Weld Heat Treatment?

If the heat-up rate is too fast, the weld may not fully austenize, leading to a lack of uniformity in the microstructure and potentially reducing the strength of the welded joint. Similarly, if the cool-down rate is too fast, the weld may not fully transform to the desired microstructure, again leading to a lack of uniformity and reduced strength. Therefore, a controlled heat-up and cool-down rate is necessary to ensure the proper microstructure and mechanical properties in the welded area.
